Overseas Update: Kizer, Larkins Continue to Produce
Another week, same results.
Last week, both Erlana Larkins and Lynetta Kizer had huge games that made them leading candidates for #FeverOverseas Player of the Week honors. Here at FeverBasketball.com, we wound up giving the nod to Larkins’ 23 point-22 rebound effort over Kizer’s 37 point-12 rebound showing. Our rationale was simple: Larkins’ big game came in an emphatic win, while Kizer’s performance came in a narrow loss.
This week, Kizer could not be denied. The 6-foot-4 Maryland alum scored 37 points to lead Turkish club Hatay to an upset win over Besiktas. Kizer made 13-of-22 shots from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line. She also collected six rebounds in the victory. With 72 points in her past two games, Kizer was our choice for #FeverOverseas Player of the Week.
But Larkins could have easily taken home the honor for the second straight week. Larkins had 15 points and 25 (yes, TWENTY-FIVE) rebounds in Adana ASKI’s 84-69 win over Osmaniye. Larkins’ pick-and-roll partner Briann January had a team-high 19 points for Adana in the victory.
Elsewhere in Turkey, Fever forward Marissa Coleman also had a strong week. The Fever’s other former Maryland standout tallied 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in Edirne’s 68-60 win over Canik Bld.
And in her second week overseas, Fever guard Shavonte Zellous played in two games for club Fenerbahce. Zellous had 10 points and five rebounds in a 73-56 Turkish league victory over Orduspor, then had 13 points, four boards, and four steals in a 64-56 Euroleague loss to Russian club Nadezha Orenburg.
After lighting up the scoreboard the past few weeks, Kizer is now the third leading scorer in the TKBL, averaging 18.5 points per game. Coleman (17.1 points per contest) is seventh, while January (16.6 points per night) is ninth.
Larkins now leads the league in rebounding by a wide margin, collecting 13.6 boards per game. January is tied for eighth in assists (4.4 per game), while Coleman ranks 10th in steals (1.6 per game).
Over in France, Maggie Lucas had the week off. Her club Arras plays again on Feb. 21 against Villeneueve.
Two other players who recently inked training camp contracts with the Fever are also plying their trade across the pond.
Ty Marshall is with Romanian club Sf. Gheorge. Marshall has played seven games for the club, averaging 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
Briana Butler is playing for Belgian team BC Belfius Namur Capitale. Butler is averaging a team-best 14.2 points and 6.3 rebounds in 15 games with the club.
