Overseas Update: Busy Week in Turkey
It’s time once again to check in on the Fever’s contingent of players overseas. It was busy week for the five Fever players competing in Turkey, as the TKBL had a rare week with two league games.
This week’s standout performer was Lynetta Kizer, who once again takes home #FeverOverseas Player of the Week honors. Kizer had 25 points and nine rebounds in Hatay’s 56-48 win over Botas, then followed up with 21 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in a narrow loss to Orduspor. Kizer is now the second-leading scorer in the TKBL, averaging 19.2 points per game, just behind league leader Angel McCoughtry (19.3 points per contest).
Elsewhere in Turkey, the Adana ASKI club featuring Erlana Larkins and Briann January won a pair of games in the past week. They first defeated Orduspor on Feb. 25. January had 16 points and nine assists, while Larkins added 14 points and 12 rebounds in the six-point victory. Four days later, January scored 21 points and Larkins tallied eight points and 16 boards in an 82-70 win over Ormanspor.
Marissa Coleman’s Edirne squad split a pair of games, defeating Besiktas before falling to Galatasaray. Coleman had 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals in the victory and 14 points, seven boards, and five steals in the loss.
All three of January, Larkins, and Coleman continue to rank among the league leaders in the TKBL. Larkins leads the league in rebounding, collecting 13.6 boards per contest. January is eighth in scoring (17.0 points per game) and tied for sixth in assists (4.6 per contest). Coleman is ninth in scoring (16.5 points per game) and 10th in rebounding (7.9 boards per game).
Also in Turkey, Shavonte Zellous helped Fenerbahce to a pair of victories. Zellous had 18 points, nine rebounds, and three steals in an 89-57 win over Ormanspor, then finished with eight points and four boards in a win over Canik Bld. Zellous’ club will now play a pair of games this week against her former club Galatasary in the EuroLeague playoffs.
In Romania, Fever training camp invitee Ty Marshall had a strong week, tallying 20 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in Sf.Gheorge’s 102-36 (no, that’s not a typo) romp over Rapid.
And in Belgium, Briana Butler, another Fever camp invitee, had 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for Belfius Namur, but her club fell to undefeated Belgian league power Castors Braine, 85-76.
