The Indiana Fever (0-3) prepare for a matchup versus the defending WNBA champions Phoenix Mercury (1-1). Indiana has lost three straight after back-to-back games against Chicago and Minnesota and a loss this past Tuesday to New York. The team’s record matches that of a year ago, where the Fever dropped games to Chicago, Atlanta and Washington.

Tina Charles scored 21 points and Essence Carson added 14 to lead the New York Liberty to an 84-74 win over the Indiana Fever.

Indiana (0-2) and New York (1-1) are set to tip off for the teams’ 57th matchup this Tuesday evening at Madison Square Garden. Indiana holds a commanding 35-21 lead overall against New York. On the road at Madison Square Garden, Indiana claims a slight 15-14 edge in the series. In 2014, the Fever nearly completed a sweep, finishing 3-1 against New York. The team’s only loss in the series came Aug. 17 with Catchings, Larkins and January resting for the playoffs.

Layshia Clarendon and Briana Butler each scored 13 points, and Butler added a team-leading six rebounds, to push the Fever past the Washington Mystics, 76-74, at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Veteran Marissa Coleman led Indiana with 19 points as her team concluded the preseason with a 1-1 mark.
