Overseas Update: Fever Trio Meet in Turkey
It’s time for another update on the Fever’s contingent overseas. The highlight of the past week was the game between Adana ASKI and Hatay on Jan. 17 in Turkey, a game that featured three Fever players in starring roles.
Adana came away with a 90-74 win. Erlana Larkins recorded a double-double for the victors, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Briann January also had 16 points, made 4-of-7 attempts from 3-point range, and dished out seven assists.
On the other side, Lynetta Kizer had a strong showing for Hatay. Kizers led all scorers with 26 points, making 9-of-13 shots from the field and 8-of-9 attempts from the free throw line. Kizer also collected six rebounds. Despite the loss, she is our FeverBasketball.com #FeverOverseas Player of the Week.
Elsewhere in Turkey, Marissa Coleman’s Edirne squad edged out Osmaniye, 68-66. Coleman contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the victory. Through 12 games, Edirne and Adana are tied for fifth place in TKBL at 7-5.
Several Fever players rank among the league’s statistical leaders. Coleman is fourth in scoring (17.5 points per game), January is eight (15.3 points per game), and Kizer is ninth 15.0 points per contest). Larkins remains third in rebounding, averaging 10.8 boards per night. January is tied for seventh in assists (4.2 per game). Coleman is sixth in steals (2.0 per game), while Larkins and January are tied for ninth (1.6 per contest).
In France, Maggie Lucas’ Arras squad fell to Lattes Montpelier, 77-60, despite 18 points from the Fever sharpshooter. Lucas also collected five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the loss. The Penn State alum continues to rank second in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game. Arras is tied for fourth in the league with a 10-5 record.
In Israel, Natasha Howard had six points and seven rebounds in Elitzur Ramla’s 73-65 loss to Maccabi Ashdod. Still, Howard’s club remains in second place in the Israeli league standings with a record of 10-4. Howard is tied for third in the league in blocks, averaging 1.2 rejections per game.
Finally, there were no games in South Korea last week, meaning the red-hot Karima Christmas got some much-deserved rest. Christmas’ S-Birds squad will return to the court for two games this week.
