Game Recap: Fever Score Last 10 Points to Beat Sparks at Home
The Indiana Fever scored the last 10 points in the final 2:52 of Tuesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks to come back for a 74-72 win.
Kelsey Mitchell scored the final five points, including a 3-point field goal with 1:19 remaining to tie the game. Following a turnover by the Sparks on the offensive end, Mitchell came up with the loose ball and was fouled with 15.3 seconds remaining. The 83 percent free throw shooter for her career stepped to the line and knocked down the two decisive free throws to snap the seven-game skid to the Sparks for the Fever.
Teaira McCowan tied a career-high with 19 rebounds to highlight her 10th double-double of the season and the 26th of her career. McCowan’s effort on the glass was only the fifth time a player in WNBA history came within one rebound or better than their opponent’s rebounding total.
The +19 rebounding margin for the Fever also tied the largest rebounding margin this year against an opponent for Indiana.
Tiffany Mitchell scored in double figures for the 15th time over the last 16 games to end with 12 points. Lindsay Allen earned the starting nod in place of Danielle Robinson due to a right ankle injury in Saturday’s game and finished with eight points and two assists.
Jantel Lavender led the Fever reserves with six points in her second game back from injury.
For the Sparks, Nneka Ogwumike led Los Angeles with 17 points and five rebounds. Lauren Cox came off the bench and added 14 points for LA.
