Game Preview: Fever Continue West Coast Swing in Phoenix

The second game of a three-game west coast swing matches the Indiana Fever against the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET. Tuesday’s game will be streamed on FeverBasketball.com and the Indiana Fever’s Facebook page in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

Tuesday is the first of three meetings between the Fever and Mercury this season, with the last two matchups taking place at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on September 4 and September 6.

Last time out in Los Angeles on Sunday, the Fever fell to the Los Angeles Sparks, 75-70. After an up-and-down pace in the first half, both teams stepped up play on the defensive end in the second half as Los Angeles was able to outlast Indiana in the final 20 minutes, 26-24. The 10 points from the Sparks in the third quarter on Sunday night were also the fewest scored by a Fever opponent this season.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Fever dropped its seventh straight contest to the Sparks stemming from the 2019 season. Sunday was Mitchell’s seventh 20-point effort this year and the 28th of her career. Tiffany Mitchell added 10 of her 12 points from the free throw line pushing her past 500 made free throws for her career. She is still third all-time in franchise history in free throws made and owns the fourth highest career free throw shooting percentage by a player in WNBA history at 90 percent.

Injury Report

Last Meeting
Both meetings last year in the Wubble displayed impressive offensive performances from Indiana and Phoenix. The first meeting, which was a 106-100 Fever win, saw Indiana tie the second most points scored in a regular season game in franchise history. It was also Marianne Stanley’s first victory as Indiana Fever head coach.

The second meeting was a different story for Phoenix as the Mercury ran away with a 105-81 victory. Despite five Fever players scoring in double figures, Diana Taurasi stole the show shooting 8-of-13 from 3-point range and ended with 27 points. Taurasi has reached eight made 3-point shots in a game four different times in her career. The WNBA record for most made from beyond the arc in a single game is still owned by Fever guard, Kelsey Mitchell, with nine.
