LOS ANGELES – The Indiana Fever fell on the road to the Los Angeles Sparks, 75-70, on Sunday night at Staples Center. After an up-and-down pace in the first half, both teams stepped up play on the defensive end in the second half as Los Angeles was able to outlast Indiana in the final 20 minutes, 26-24. The 10 points from the Sparks in the third quarter on Sunday night were also the fewest scored by a Fever opponent this season.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Fever dropped its seventh straight contest to the Sparks stemming from the 2019 season. Sunday was Mitchell’s seventh 20-point effort this year and the 28th of her career.

Tiffany Mitchell added 10 of her 12 points from the free throw line pushing her past 500 made free throws for her career. She is still third all-time in franchise history in free throws made and owns the fourth highest career free throw shooting percentage by a player in WNBA history at 90 percent.

Victoria Vivians led all reserves with 10 points for her fourth game scoring in double figures. Emma Cannon, who was signed by the Fever on July 28, finished with five points and four rebounds in her debut with Indiana.

For Los Angeles, Brittney Sykes was one of four Sparks players to score in double figures to end with 16.

The two teams will conclude the 2021 regular season series on Tuesday, August 31 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
