Game Preview: Fever Look to Keep Momentum Going vs. LA Sparks
The Indiana Fever begin the final 12-game stretch of the 2021 regular season at the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday night with tip set for 9 p.m. ET. Sunday’s game will be streamed on FeverBasketball.com and the Indiana Fever’s Facebook page in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
Sunday is the second of three meetings between the Fever and Sparks this season, with LA taking the first matchup, 98-63, back on June 3. The 35-point margin was the largest margin of victory for the Sparks against the Fever in the regular season series dating back to the first Fever season in 2000.
The Fever own a 3-game winning streak heading into tonight’s matchup, which has not happened since September of the 2016 regular season. Indiana’s last time out was a 79-68 victory at the Atlanta Dream, highlighted by all five Fever starters scoring in double figures.
Teaira McCowan finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds against the Dream and is averaging 16.3 points to go along with 11.7 rebounds during the current winning streak. Danielle Robinson’s last time out included dishing out a season-high nine assists and is also averaging 16.3 points per contest over the last three games. Tiffany Mitchell, who is four free throws away from 500 made for her career, has scored in double figures in 11 of the last 12 games, including 14 points in Atlanta. Mitchell moved into fourth in scoring in franchise history ahead of Tammy Sutton-Brown, and now has 1,671 points in an Indiana Fever jersey.
Indiana is expected to be without several key contributors beginning Sunday, including Kysre Gondrezick, Bernadett Határ, Jantel Lavender and Chelsey Perry.
For Los Angeles, the Sparks have lost six consecutive and eight of the last nine games dating back to June 18. Former Fever guard Erica Wheeler is averaging 14.0 points and 4.4 assists per game in her first season with the Sparks. Lauren Cox has appeared in five games with LA this season and averaging 3.4 points and four rebounds in the purple and gold.
LA and Indiana will round out the regular season-series on August 31 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
