Storylines & Promotion

  • The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky meet for the third time this season, with the Sky winning both previous matchups.
    Indiana has won two of its last three games heading into the contest, as it looks to avenge its previous losses to the Sky. Chicago enters the game winning three of four, including an overtime win against Atlanta two days ago.
  • Briann January posted new season highs with 14 points and seven assists against Washington, June 20. January is ranked eighth in the league in assists per game (3.5). Lynetta Kizer added a season-high 14 points while tying a season-best six rebounds off the bench. The Fever forced a season-high 20 turnovers while outscoring the Mystics 21-8 in points-off-turnovers, but the Mystics’ 10 3-pointers spelled this difference in an 87-75 Washington win.
  • As of June 19, Marissa Coleman leads the Indiana Fever’s fast-paced offense in field goals, scoring and minutes played. Coleman ranks 11th in the league in 3-point percentage (36.7) and 15th in points per game (13.6). Coleman has scored in double figures in four of the last five games, and six of eight overall.
  • On June 19 at New York, Maggie Lucas set a WNBA record for the most first quarter points scored off the bench with 14. She scored career highs with 23 points and five 3-pointers to lead the Fever past the Liberty.
  • Natalie Achonwa ranks second among all first-year players in scoring (10.6 points per game) and fourth in rebounds per game (4.5). The rookie leads the team in field goal percentage (53.1 percent) and offensive rebounds (16). She ranks second on the team in total rebounds with 36, just behind Tamika Catchings who has 43. Achonwa is the co-leader in blocks totaling four through eight games.
  • Shavonte Zellous (back) and Erlana Larkins (knee) remain out of action for Friday’s game against the Sky.

Last Meeting
(June 14, 2015) Chicago captured a 98-72 victory at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with the Sky placing six scorers in double digits. Chicago was led by Elena Delle Donne with 24 pointsand its starting backcourt of Cappie Pondexter and Courtney Vandersloot combined for 29 on 11-of-20 shooting. Indiana found itself down 41 points in the third quarter, which tied a franchise record for largest deficit in a game. Marissa Coleman led Indiana with 16 points and added six rebounds. Natalie Achonwa had 12 and Maggie Lucas added 10 points.

Fever: (June 20, 2015) With both teams feeling the fatigue of back-to-back games, the Washington Mystics outlasted Indiana last Saturday 87-75 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Ivory Latta scored 21 of her 24 points in the second half as Washington won its third road game to start the season. Briann January and Lynetta Kizer led the Fever with 14 points apiece, and while the Mystics totaled 51.7 percent shooting for the game, Indiana shot 36.1 percent overall. Shenise Johnson knocked down a three to cut the Washington lead to 79-73 with less than three minutes to play, but Latta answered with a pair of threes to push the Mystics’ lead back to 12 with 1:39 left.

Chicago: (June 24, 2015) Elena Delle Donne scored a career-high 45 points and Cappie Pondexter moved into eighth place on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list with 19 as the Chicago Sky beat the Atlanta Dream 100-96 in overtime on Wednesday. Chicago limited Atlanta to two points in the first four minutes of the five-minute overtime, but Angel McCoughtry’s 3-pointer pulled Atlanta within 98-96 with 8.4 seconds left. Delle Donne sealed it with two free throws with 6 seconds remaining and blocked her sixth shot on Atlanta’s final possession. She grabbed 11 rebounds to record her third consecutive double-double for Chicago. McCoughtry had 34 points and 10 rebounds for the Dream.

Series
Indiana owns a 30-10 advantage overall and 17-4 home record against the Sky since Chicago’s first season in 2006. Chicago is going for its third win against the Fever this season Friday night. The Sky won on opening night, 95-72, and again on June 14, 98-72. The last sweep between the two franchises during a regular season occurred in 2012 when Indiana swept Chicago 5-0. The teams’ final meeting this season is in Chicago on Aug. 4.
