(Game 1, September 23, 2015) NEW YORK – The New York Liberty took early control of the Eastern Conference Finals as they locked down the Indiana offense in the second half to run away with an 84-67 Game 1 victory at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night. After cutting an early nine-point deficit to 42-48 heading into halftime, the Fever managed just seven third-quarter points on 2-for-16 shooting (12.5 percent), while the Liberty bolted ahead on a 23-8 run to take a commanding 22-point lead and push Indiana on the brink of elimination once again. Rookie Kiah Stokes paced New York with a game-high 21 points off the bench, while All-Star forward Tina Charles finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and a career-best nine assists. Shenise Johnson led Indiana as the only Fever player in double figures with 12 points.
(Game 2, September 27, 2015) INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever trailed by as many as 18 points late in the first half and entered the locker room at halftime with a 29-44 deficit; but Indiana limited New York to just 20 points on 24 percent shooting (7-29 FG) in the second half while outscoring the Liberty 41-20 in the second half to earn a thrilling 70-64 victory at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and even the Eastern Conference Finals at 1-1. Indiana exited halftime on a 10-2 run that cut New York’s lead to seven; but the Liberty appeared to weather the storm as Essence Carson buried a three-pointer late in the third to push New York’s lead back to 14, 53-39. But Shavonte Zellous beat the third-period buzzer with a three of her own that ignited a 24-6 Fever run that put Indiana on top, 63-59, with 2:14 left to play. Tanisha Wright answered with a triple and Epiphanny Prince converted a pair of free throws to put New York ahead, 64-63, with 1:08 remaining; but New York would not score again as Tamika Catchings put the Fever ahead for good with a 13-foot jumper and Briann January drew a key charge as New York had a chance to tie later while down three points. Catchings finished with 25 points on 11-for-21 shooting – tying a career high for field goals made. Shenise Johnson added 12 while Marissa Coleman and Zellous each finished with 10 for Indiana, who improved to 3-0 this season in elimination contests. Tina Charles finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead New York.
