Game Recap: Fever Fall in Preseason Opener at Chicago

CHICAGO – The Indiana Fever started the 2023 preseason schedule at the Chicago Sky on Sunday evening.

In the 81-56 loss, all 13 Fever players who saw the court contributed in the scoring column, including eight points in the WNBA debut from center Aliyah Boston. The 6-foot-5 rookie from South Carolina went 4-of-5 from the floor in just under 16 minutes of action in her professional debut. Kelsey Mitchell, who led Indiana in scoring 19 times in 2022, finished with a team-high nine points on 3-of-6 shooting.

Fever forward NaLyssa Smith pulled down a team-high five rebounds to go along with four points as well.

Rookie guard Taylor Mikesell came off the bench and finished with five points on 2-of-4 shooting, while fellow rookies Grace Berger and Victaria Saxton each added four points. Berger also contributed four rebounds in her first WNBA game.

In Chicago’s second preseason game of the year, forward Isabelle Harrison led all scorers with 15 points as the Sky ended the night with four starters scoring in double figures. Rebekah Gardner added 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

After shooting 4-of-12 from 3-point range in Friday night’s preseason opener at the Dallas Wings, Chicago finished 10-of-16 from beyond the arc on Sunday night back at home.
