Storylines & Promotion
• The Indiana Fever return home Friday night to host the San Antonio Stars at 7:00 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
• Friday is Hoops for Troops Night presented by Hoosier Lottery. Hoosier Lottery will be giving out lottery tickets to everyone 18 & older. It’s also a Lucas Oil Family Night presented by Indy Star.
• After a stretch in which they lost five of six games, the Fever have won their last two contests while topping 90 points in both victories. Indiana has averaged 93.5 points per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field over the last two games.
• The Fever led wire-to-wire and turned in a complete game on the offensive end as they shot 48 percent from the field, 93 percent from the free throw line and recorded 24 assists on 32 field goals in a 95-83 road win at Chicago Wednesday afternoon.
• The Fever lead the WNBA in free throw percentage this season while shooting a collective 84.1 percent from the foul line. Four Fever players currently rank in the top 20 of the WNBA’s qualified leaders in free throw percentage, led by Briann January who ranks seventh at 90.6 percent on the year.
• In her first outing after the passing of her former college coach, Pat Summitt, at the University of Tennessee, Tamika Catchings turned in an inspired performance in Wednesday’s win at Chicago as she finished with a game-high 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and no turnovers in 28 minutes.
• Catchings has scored 20 or more points in four of her last seven games, averaging a total of 18.0 points per game and 51.9 percent (42-81 FG) from the field over that stretch.
• After scoring a career-high 19 points in Indiana’s victory at Dallas Saturday night, Erlana Larkins followed that performance with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds in Wednesday’s win over the Sky. Larkins has scored in double figures in four of her last six games and is shooting a team-best 61.1 percent from the field this season.
• Larkins ranks seventh overall in the WNBA with an average of 7.9 rebounds per game and has led the Fever in rebounding in 12 of the team’s 16 games this season.
• Re-inserted into the starting lineup for the last two games, Erica Wheeler has scored in double figures in each of the last three outings while averaging 11.8 points per game over that span. Wheeler added 10 points and a new career high with nine assists in the road win at Chicago. Her nine assists marks the highest total by any Fever player this season, and she now ranks 20th in the WNBA this season with 2.8 assists per game.
• Currently standing with a 3-12 record this season, the Stars have dropped five of their last six outings, including an 84-67 loss at Washington Wednesday afternoon to tip off their current three-game road trip.
• With one of the youngest rosters in the WNBA, San Antonio is led by former Notre Dame star Kayla McBride, who currently ranks seventh in the league this season in scoring with 17.8 points per game. Moriah Jefferson, the first-year point guard out of Connecticut, is averaging 9.5 points per game and leads all rookies in the WNBA this season with 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Last Meeting
(June 17, 2016) SAN ANTONIO – Indiana snapped a three-game losing slide and earned its second road victory of the season with an 84-75 win at San Antonio on Friday, June 17. The Fever shot 50 percent from the field piled up 84 points after struggling on the offensive end during their recent losing streak. Entering the fourth quarter tied at 75, Tamika Catchings carried the Fever with 11 of her game-high 23 points coming in the final frame as Indiana hit four three-point field goals and all seven free throw attempts to distance themselves by as many as 11 points and seal the win. Lynetta Kizer chipped in 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench while Marissa Coleman added 11.
Series
Including Indiana’s win over the Stars on June 17, the Fever have won five of the last six regular season games over San Antonio. Indiana holds a 17-14 record all-time over the Stars, including an 8-7 mark at home.
