Fever Fall Short Against Wings, 82-78

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Indiana Fever finished with six players scoring in double figures on Saturday afternoon against the Dallas Wings. Kelsey Mitchell’s 19 points led the Fever in scoring for the eighth time game season in the 82-78 loss to the Wings.

Indiana jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 1:58 of the first quarter, which was its largest lead of the game. The Fever defense held Dallas (6-10) to 28 points in the second and third quarter combined, and took a two-point lead into the final quarter.

Tiffany Mitchell’s two free throws with 8:44 left in the third quarter extended the Fever (5-10) lead to 62-57 with 8:44 remaining. Dallas worked to tie the game up twice in the remaining time, and regained the lead after Wings rookie Satou Sabally converted a three-point play with 3:44 to go. Dallas never surrendered the advantage the rest of the way. Sabally ended the game with 18 points on 10-of-10 shooting from the free throw line, to go along with 11 rebounds.

In Tiffany Mitchell’s first game back from injury, she led the Fever bench with 13 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe. Saturday was Mitchell’s third career game with at least 10 made free throws in a single game.

The 2020 Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award recipient, Natalie Achonwa, tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in her fifth game starting this season.

Candice Dupree fell one rebound shy of a double-double effort to go along with 11 points, while Rookie-of-the-Year-hopeful Julie Allemand added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Teaira McCowan tested the Dallas defense early and ended with her ninth double-digit scoring effort this season.

Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale’s seventh career 30-point game led all scorers to go along with three rebounds. Ogunbowale checked out of the game with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter due to an injury, but returned at the beginning of the second half.
