Game Recap: Fever Rally For Road Win at Dallas with Only Seven Players Available

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The Indiana Fever used a 9-0 run in the last 2:53 of Friday night’s game at Dallas to earn a hard-fought 83-81 win against the Wings. Only seven Fever players were available to play in Dallas for the last game of a three-game road trip.

Danielle Robinson was fouled on a driving layup with 7.2 seconds remaining in the game to complete the comeback for the Fever, who will now have eight days to recover before the next game on August 28 at home against the Las Vegas Aces. Robinson finished the game with a team-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists.

 

Friday night was also the first win this season for the Fever after trailing at the end of the third quarter.

All five Fever starters also scored in double figures for the second time in four games to help Indiana keep pace in the WNBA playoff picture. In only her third game with the Fever, Emma Cannon scored 14 of her season-high 16 points in the second half in what was also the first start of her WNBA career. Kelsey Mitchell notched 12 of her 14 points on four made 3-point field goals in the first half alone. Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians both added 11 points each and stymied Dallas with their defensive presence all night. Vivians tied her season-high with three steals in her fourth starting nod of the season.

Off the bench, Lindsay Allen shined with her best offensive output in her WNBA tenure setting new career-highs with 13 points and three made 3-point field goals. Allen also tied Robinson for a team-high five assists distributed on Friday night. Rookie Aaliyah Wilson dished out a career-best three assists in her enhanced role off the bench as well.

The win also snaps a three-game losing streak to Dallas.

For the Wings, Isabelle Harrison came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Marina Mabrey started off the game making three of her four 3-point field goals in the first quarter, but was held to only two more made baskets the rest of the game.

As a team, Dallas made seven of its nine 3-point field goals in the first quarter.

Friday was only the seventh time this season Arike Ogunbowale was held to less than 15 points in a game this season. The Fever held one of the league’s most prolific scorers to only 10 points in the first matchup on June 24.
