Game Recap: Fever Unable to Comeback Late Against Mercury

PHOENIX – The Indiana Fever dropped the first of three meetings this season with the Phoenix Mercury, 84-80, on Tuesday night in Phoenix. Indiana trailed 77-67 with 3:29 remaining and went on an 8-0 run to reduce the deficit to 77-75 with 1:32 left before suffering a second straight loss out of the Olympic break.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever again with her 29th career 20-point scoring game on 8-of-20 shooting. It was her eighth time this season reaching at least 20 points scored.

Victoria Vivians came off the bench and tied a career-high five made 3-point field goals on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. As a team, the Fever made a season-high 10 3-point field goals Tuesday night. Vivians finished with 16 points, six rebounds and tied a season-high three assists.

Danielle Robinson added 10 of her 14 points in the second half to go along with a season-high eight rebounds, while Tiffany Mitchell finished in double figures for the 13th time in the last 14 games with 11 points.

For Phoenix, Brittney Griner led all scorers with 25 points and seven rebounds. Diana Taurasi poured in 22 points while shooting 10-of-10 from the free throw line, and added seven rebounds and seven assists. Brianna Turner recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Mercury guard Skylar Diggins-Smith sustained a right ankle sprain early in the first quarter and did not return.
