NOTES

  • Indiana won its season opener for the first time since 2013.
  • Tiffany Mitchell’s set a new career high with 22 points against New York on Friday. Her previous high of 21 came in 2016 at Connecticut.
  • Mitchell made her first 12 free throws in the season opener, coming two shy of the franchise record. She finished the game 13-of-14 from the charity stripe, both figures being career highs for the fourth-year guard.
  • Erica Wheeler is two steals away from reaching 100 as a member of the Fever. She is also four 3-pointers away from 100 in her WNBA career.
  • The Fever and Sun met three times last season with Connecticut winning all three matchups. Connecticut leads the all-time series 41-29 and has won each of the last five meetings.
  • Either Tiffany or Kelsey Mitchell has led the Fever in scoring in the team’s three preseason games and season opener. Both players have paced the team twice.
  • Indiana got 35 points off the bench in its win over the Liberty. Tiffany Mitchell and Teaira McCowan accounted for 33 of those 35 points.
  • The Fever went 20-of-28 from the free throw line as a team in their season opener. They only attempted or made more free throws on one occasion all of last year.
  • Four different Fever players reached double figures in the win over the Liberty: Tiffany Mitchell, Erica Wheeler, Candice Dupree and Teaira McCowan. Six players contributed at least six points.
  • Arriving from Hungary on May 10, Candice Dupree played limited minutes during the preseason. Dupree finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the season opener, setting up McCowan’s game-winning basket. In her 14th season in the WNBA, Dupree is the only player on the Fever’s roster to be named to an All-Star team.
  • With a Tuesday win over the Sun, the notoriously slow-starting Fever would begin a season 2-0 for the first time since 2012. That season, Indiana won its first four games and finished with a 22-12 record.
