The Indiana Fever are back on the road as they take on the Connecticut Sun for their second matchup in three days on Wednesday. The Sun defeated the Fever, 87-78, in Indianapolis, Sunday night. Wednesday’s game concludes the three-game series for the two teams, Connecticut leading 2-0.
Natalie Achonwa led the Fever with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Candice Dupree followed closely with 15 points and eight boards against the Sun. Rachel Banham exploded off the bench for Connecticut scoring 20 points shooting 5-of-5 from behind the 3-point line in their victory over Indiana.
Injury Report
Guard Shenise Johnson (left knee ACL rehabilitation) remains out and will not play.
Storylines
• In Sunday matchup between Connecticut and Indiana, the Sun began the fourth quarter with a 15-2 run after leading by just two points after the third quarter, 62-60. Connecticut shot 10-of-16 from the field and outscored the Fever 25-18 in the fourth quarter.
• Connecticut’s bench outshined Indiana’s by 36 points (46-10) on Sunday. Rachel Banham accounted for 20 of those 46 bench points. The Sun’s bench players outscored their starting five 46-41.
• All five of Indiana’s starters were in double figures for the first time this season. Natalie Achonwa leading the pack with 16 points, Candice Dupree with 15 points and eight rebounds, Tiffany Mitchell and Victoria Vivians with 14 a piece, and Kelsey Mitchell rounded out the Fever’s starting five with 11. Indiana’s starting five outscored Connecticut’s 68-41 on Sunday.
• Natalie Achonwa shot 7-of-7 from the field against the Sun on Sunday night. Her 7-of-7 mark from the field is tied for the third-most field goal attempts from the field without a miss in Fever history and was the best outing by a Fever player since 2012.
• Candice Dupree reached double figures for the ninth time this season.
• Indianapolis native Alex Bentley finished with five points, a team-high six assists and five steals in 23 minutes off the bench for Connecticut on Sunday.
• The Fever lost earlier in the season to Connecticut, 86-77, inside of Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sun have won their last four home games against Indiana.
