Storylines & Promotion
• Hitting the road for two games this week, the Fever tip off their road trip for a nationally televised rematch of the 2015 WNBA Finals Tuesday night as Indiana squares off with the undefeated Minnesota Lynx at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
• Minnesota took the first meeting between the two teams this season as the Lynx led by as many as 24 points before the Fever’s valiant fourth-quarter comeback attempt fell just short in Indiana’s 71-74 loss at the Target Center on Friday, May 27.
• The Lynx, once again, feature a star-studded lineup headlined by 2014 WNBA MVP Maya Moore. Moore is currently third in the league in scoring this season while averaging 20.2 points to go with 4.8 rebounds and a team-high 4.9 assists per game. Lynx forward and 2015 Finals MVP Sylvia Fowles is averaging 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds – sixth in the WNBA – in her first full regular season in Minnesota.
• Dominant on both ends of the floor, the Lynx currently lead the WNBA in scoring with an average of 87.0 points per game and rank second in the circuit while allowing only 74.3 points per contest.
• The Fever suffered their second consecutive home loss as they could not overcome their slow first-quarter start in an 88-90 loss to the Seattle Storm in their last outing Sunday night.
• Minnesota improved to 10-0 on the season Saturday night as the Lynx used a big third-quarter effort after trailing at halftime to earn an 83-76 road victory over the Washington Mystics.
• Tamika Catchings recorded the highest scoring effort by a Fever player this season as she finished with 27 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field and 8-for-9 from the free throw line in Sunday’s loss to Seattle.
• With her next three-pointer, Catchings will pass Nicole Powell (580) into sole possession of eighth place in WNBA history for most three-point field goals made in a career.
• Briann January has scored in double figures in each of the last two games. She followed a season-high 17-point effort in Friday’s loss to Chicago with 15 points Sunday as she shot 4-for-5 from three-point range on the night.
• After shooting 0-for-5 from long distance in her first three appearances this season, January has shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from beyond the arc over the last two games.
• Shenise Johnson has scored in double figures in three of her four games since returning to the lineup after suffering a concussion. She finished with 13 points in Sunday’s game, and is currently third on the team with an average of 11.1 points per game this season.
Last Meeting
(May 27, 2016) MINNEAPOLIS – Indiana made a valiant second-half effort to push the undefeated Minnesota Lynx to the brink late in the fourth quarter, but the Lynx held on to improve their record to 5-0 on the season with a 74-71 win over Indiana on May 27. The Fever managed only six points in the first quarter on 12 percent shooting from the field as Minnesota built a 29-6 advantage after the first period. After the Lynx claimed their largest lead at 53-29 to start the second half, the Fever scored 26 third-quarter points to trim the deficit to 16. Erica Wheeler led the way in the third with 11 points. Minnesota rested its stars for much of the third and fourth quarters, offering an opening for the Fever to close to within seven, 73-66, with 2:02 remaining in the contest. The Fever defense turned up its pressure, forcing turnovers that led to easy buckets and first-round draft pick Tiffany Mitchell scoring nine straight points on her way to a team-high 16 points. Indiana forced a shot-clock turnover with 9 seconds remaining, taking possession while trailing 73-70. The Lynx responded by intentionally fouling to deprive Indiana of a 3-point shot. Mitchell hit a free throw with 2.2 seconds remaining and missed the second shot intentionally. With Indiana forced to foul to regain possession, Seimone Augustus iced the game for the Lynx with a final free throw.
Series
The Fever have lost 10 consecutive regular season games to the Lynx and have dropped five regular season road games in a row at Minnesota. The Fever have not defeated the Lynx during the regular season since Indiana earned a 78-75 win at Minnesota on June 6, 2010. However, Indiana was able to steal a Game 1 victory in the 2015 WNBA Finals at the Target Center on October 4. The Fever eventually fell one game short of the franchise’s second WNBA championship as they fell to the Lynx in the decisive Game 5 at Minnesota.
