The centerpiece of each of the Fever’s three conference titles and, of course, their 2012 WNBA championship, has been superstar forward Tamika Catchings, who begins her final pro season. Embarking on her 16th year with the Fever franchise, the three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time WNBA All-Star will take the court next Saturday in what will be the last season opener of her career.
The Fever won the Eastern Conference title last season after overcoming 2-1 playoff deficts against both the Chicago Sky and New York Liberty. After defeating the Liberty for the conference title, Indiana stretched the WNBA Finals to a decisive fifth game before falling to the Minnesota Lynx. Besides Catchings, nine other returning players from the conference champions include Natalie Achonwa, Layshia Clarendon, Marissa Coleman, Briann January, Shenise Johnson, Lynetta Kizer, Erlana Larkins, Maggie Lucas and Jeanette Pohlen.
