Top 10 World Records With Fans and Sports
The Fever and their fans will be attempting to make an appearance in the Guinness World Records® at their season opener at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, June 6, at 7 PM, by being the Greatest number of people lighting glowsticks simultaneously at a single venue. We thought it would be interesting to look at other Guinness World Records involving sports and their fans to see the elite company that the Fever and their fans will be joining.
1. Loudest Crowd Roar at a Sports Stadium
in a September game against the Patriots this past season, the Kansas City Chiefs and their crowd set the record for loudest crowd ever at an outdoor sporting event with a mark of 142.2 dbA.
The deafening sound level was reached with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter.
2. Largest Attendance at a Basketball Game
At the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, the amount of fans in attendance set a record for a basketball game at 108,713! That figure was made possible by playing in the humungous Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
3. Most Simultaneous High Fives
At a basketball game between Saint Mary and Gonzaga, fans broke the record for most simultaneous high fives by having 3,504 participants help break the previous record of 2,176.
4. Largest Gathering of People Wearing Wigs
In June of 2013, fans of the Los Angeles Angels set a record by being the largest gathering of people wearing wigs at one time. It broke the previous record of 12,083, which was set at a rugby game in Australia.
5.Largest Flaming Image
Less so in the sports realm than some of the other records, but a crowd of 11,336 people in the Philippines lit 56,680(!) candles which viewed from afar made a beautiful image. The mass amount of candles ended up being the largest flaming image in history.
6. Most People Blowing a Bubble Gum Bubble Simultaneously
At the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Maryland, the record was set for simultaneous bubble gum bubbles. The previous record was 544 people, but a final count of 721 people was good enough to seal a new Guinness World Record.
7. Largest Taekwondo Display
In Ranga Reddy, Indiana, students at the Taekwondo Jidowan Sports Federation set the record of largest Taekwondo display with 585 participants.
8. Most Games of Chess Played Simultaneously In One Location
In Tehran, Iran, Grand Master chess player Ehsan Ghaem Maghami set the record for most games beings played by an individual with 135. Unfortunately, Maghami didn’t win every match—just 97.35 percent of them, still not too shabby.
9. Largest Human Logo/Image
In July of 1999 in Lisbon, Portugal, soccer fans teamed up to make the largest human logo/image in history. With 34,309 participants, the fans formed the image of a soccer player as part of a bid to receive the UEFA European Championship. The creative and well organized bid ended up winning them the UEFA bid.
10. Largest Game of Dodgeball
At UC Irvine in California, 6084 students participated in a massive game of dodgeball, making it the biggest ever recorded. Watching the video, it’s a bit hard to imagine that either team won, but either way, it looks like a good time.
