Drafted third overall by the Fever in the 2019 WNBA Draft, McCowan is no stranger to making Fever history. In her rookie season she set the Fever record for most rebounds in a season with 305 total during her rookie campaign. By the end of her rookie season with 11 double-doubles, just shy of Tamika Catchings’ rookie record of 12 in 2002.
Despite the circumstances that came with the WNBA wubble, McCowan ended her second season with an increase in points per game, field goal percentage and free throw shooting percentage in 2020.
Four games into this season, she is averaging a near double-double with 9.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Before Friday’s game, McCowan spoke to the press about the attention she is starting to attract on both sides of the floor, including being double teamed.
“Teams are doubling me now, which was a whole thing in college. I knew that that was going to come at some point in time [here],… and I know I’m going to get double probably majority of the season. So, I still have to take my time, play it out accordingly and then make a move and cue to my teammate that’s open or go ahead and just score.”
