SAN ANTONIO – Danielle Robinson paced four double-figure scorers Tuesday afternoon while leading the San Antonio Stars to an 80-62 victory over the Indiana Fever. Robinson shot 6-of-8 from the floor and was 6-of-7 at the free throw stripe.

San Antonio won for just the second time in its last six games while sending the Fever to a second straight road defeat as both teams ended the first half of the season prior to Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game.

The defeat spoiled a 20-point effort from Fever All-Star Tamika Catchings (6,720 career points) who closed within two points of Diana Taurasi (6,722) as the No. 2 all-time scorer in WNBA history. Catchings shot 6-of-12 from the floor and made 8-of-10 free throws. Catchings already is the league’s all-time leader in steals and free throws, and is currently the league’s third-leading career rebounder.

Catchings was the Fever’s only double-figure scorer. Indiana shot just 34 percent from the floor while San Antonio shot 60 percent. San Antonio also manhandled the Fever on the boards, 34-18.

“We let our lack of efficiency on offense affect us on the defensive end,” said Fever coach Stephanie White. “And [the Stars] hurt us. San Antonio made us pay. I was disappointed in our energy.”

Robinson used six points to spark an 8-0 San Antonio run late in the first half, extending the Stars lead to 18, 46-28. Indiana managed six straight points in the third quarter and two free throws from Briann January brought the Fever within 53-43. The Stars answered with their own 6-0 spurt, however, and Indiana never got closer.

Sophia Young-Malcolm added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Stars. Kayla McBride added 14 and Danielle Adams scored 12, all on 3-point shots.

The lead changed hands on five straight baskets early in the game, until San Antonio pulled ahead 18-14 after the first period. San Antonio shot 70 percent from the floor (16-of-23) in the first half and outrebounded Indiana 20-8 to lead by as many as 18 and carry a 48-32 advantage into the halftime locker room.

Both teams break for the WNBA All-Star Game which takes place Saturday, July 25 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The Fever resumes action at Connecticut on Tuesday, July 28.
