INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever has signed free agent Maya Caldwell, the team announced today. Caldwell, a 5’11” guard, played in nine games and started seven last season for the Atlanta Dream. She averaged 10.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Atlanta and led the WNBA in 3-point percentage, converting 56.3 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc.
“Maya is a lockdown defender who has added several offensive skills to her game,” said Christie Sides, Fever head coach. “Every time she has faced adversity in her young career, she didn’t waste a minute getting in the gym and went to work to get better. She is a hard worker who values the intangibles.”
Caldwell was originally drafted by the Fever with the ninth pick in the third round of the 2021 WNBA Draft (33rd overall). She played collegiately at the University of Georgia, where she was named to the 2021 SEC All-Tournament Team after leading the Bulldogs to the championship game of the tournament. The Charlotte native started 56 consecutive games for Georgia and was named to SEC Academic Honor Roll.
“Maya is a young, versatile wing that has a big upside in this league,” said Lin Dunn, Fever general manager. “We love her speed and quickness.”
The Fever, who have the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, open training camp on April 30. They will tip off the regular season by hosting the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Friday, May 19. For ticket information, please visit FeverBasketball.com.
