Game Recap: Fever 79, Mystics 74 - OT (Preseason)
The Indiana Fever started off their 2025 campaign with a preseason victory over the Washington Mystics on Saturday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, rallying from six points down in the final minute of regulation to force overtime before ultimately prevailing in the extra seassion.
Sophie Cunningham led all scorers with 21 points in 34 minutes off the bench, going 6-for-11 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line while also pulling down eight rebounds.
Fellow reserve Lexie Hull added 13 points, five boards, four assists, and four steals. Starter Natasha Howard tallied 11 points and eight rebounds in under 20 minutes of action.
The Fever trailed 71-65 with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, but scored six straight points from the free throw line to tie the game. Lexie Hull made a pair of free throws with 57 seconds left and two more with 29 seconds to play. On the other end, the Fever forced a stop and Cunningham was fouled going for the rebound with 12 seconds left in regulation. Cunningham stepped to the line and calmly knocked down both free throws to send the game to overtime.
Indiana outscored Washington 8-3 in the extra session to come away with the victory.
Fever guard Caitlin Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, did not play Saturday due to a left leg injury.
The Fever will complete a rare preseason back-to-back on Sunday, traveling to Iowa City to take on the Brazilian national team at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at the University of Iowa. They close out the preseason next Saturday in Atlanta before opening the regular season by hosting the Chicago Sky on May 17.
