GAME PREVIEW:

The Indiana Fever (14-16) host the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening for the teams’ fourth and final meeting of the regular season. After a win at the Atlanta Dream on Monday night, Indiana is searching for its first win against the Sun since the 2021 regular season. The Fever will head back out for a two-game road trip on Friday and Sunday at the Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings.

The last meeting between the Fever and Sun on June 10 at Mohegan Sun Arena was an 89-72 decision in favor of Connecticut. The last time the teams faced each other in Indianapolis was back on May 20 in a tightly contested 88-84 loss, which was just Indiana’s fourth regular season game.

Indiana enters Wednesday night winning three of the first four games since returning from the Olympic break. Indiana defeated Atlanta, 84-79, on Monday night highlighted by Kelsey Mitchell’s season-high 29-point performance and season-best seven rebounds. Mitchell has scored at least 21 points in Indiana’s last four games as well as in six of the last seven games. Since returning from break, Mitchell is the top scorer in the WNBA, averaging 26.3 points per game. Rookie guard Caitlin Clark is two spots behind Mitchell in third place, averaging 23.5 points per game following the break. On Monday, Clark finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Clark enters tonight tied with Dream guard Rhyne Howard for the most made 3-point field goals by a rookie in WNBA history with 85. Yesterday, Clark was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The Connecticut Sun enter Wednesday night after winning four of its five games following the Olympic break, most recently earning a 72-64 victory against the New York Liberty on Saturday. Five Sun players scored in double figures during Saturday’s win, led by guard Marina Mabrey’s 15-point performance. Mabrey was traded to the Sun from the Chicago Sky before the break and has scored in double figures in four of her last five games with Connecticut.

Additionally, Fever center Aliyah Boston ranks second among all players in the league for rebounds following the Olympic break, averaging 12.5 rebounds per game. Sun forwards Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner are averaging 8.8 rebounds per game 7.0 rebounds per game since the break to lead the Sun. Wednesday night will also feature the two assists leaders in the WNBA in Clark averaging 8.2 assists per game and Thomas averaging 7.9 assists per game.
