Storylines & Promotion
• Indiana’s only win this season was against the Dream on June 16. Indiana held Atlanta to just 64 points and forced 19 turnovers. The Fever shot 34-of-76 (44.7%) from the field and the Vivians-Mitchell rookie duo accounted for 40 points, leading them to a 96-64 victory, Indiana’s largest margin since 2015.
• Indiana’s 61 second-half points against the Dream two weeks ago were the most in a second half in club history, and their 35-point margin in the second half (61-26) was the second-largest second-half margin in league history.
• Atlanta guard Tiffany Hayes returned to the court for 12 minutes of playing time on Friday night, after sitting out the past few games due to an ankle injury sustained during the Dream’s loss in Indianapolis. Hayes had five points and two rebounds in Atlanta’s loss to Minnesota.
• The Fever, who trailed by just one point at the end of the first quarter on Friday against Phoenix, shot a combined 20-of-32 in the first and fourth quarters, but just 9-of-32 in the second and third periods in the loss to Phoenix.
• Kelsey Mitchell had 19 points with five 3-pointers Friday night against Phoenix. Her 45 total 3-pointers puts her in the top 20 among WNBA rookies all-time for a season. Through 16 games, she is on pace for 95 3-pointers with the WNBA rookie record being 76.
• Rookie Victoria Vivians reached double figures for the third straight game and the seventh time this season with 10 points Friday.
• Backup center Kayla Alexander reached double figures for the first time this season with a season-best 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
• Indiana’s rookie class of Mitchell (45), Vivians (29) and Hind Ben Abdelkader (6) eclipsed Indiana’s season record for most 3-point field goals made by rookies (80) on Friday night. The previous record was held by the 2002 rookie class of Tamika Catchings (76) and Jackie Moore (0). Mitchell and Vivians both are on pace to challenge Catchings’ rookie total which remains the WNBA rookie record (shared by Crystal Robinson).
• Indiana’s rookie class is on pace (5.0 per game) for 140 3-pointers this season. The league record by a rookie class is 186 by Minnesota in 1999, though only the Lynx and a 1999 Orlando squad (138) have surpassed 100. The 2018 Fever rookies are just 20 3FGs from the century mark.
• Seventy-four total 3-pointers by Kelsey Mitchell (45) and Victoria Vivians (29) already are ninth in WNBA history by a rookie duo. They are set to challenge the WNBA standard of 118 set by Tonya Edwards (66) and Katie Smith (52) with a 1999 Minnesota squad.
