Storylines
• Indiana concludes a West Coast back-to-back weekend with Saturday night’s game in Sin City. It caps the first of two back-to-back weekends to close the season, playing Chicago in home (Saturday) and road (Sunday) games next weekend.
• The Fever are 2-2 since the All-Star Break. Indiana’s recent two-game win streak was its first since June 15 and 18, 2017, at home against Atlanta and at Chicago.
• Indiana trailed Phoenix by 14 points at halftime Friday night before surrendering a 36-point third quarter as the Mercury coasted to a 94-74 home win. Natalie Achonwa played just 10 minutes due to foul trouble, and she and Candice Dupree combined for an uncharacteristic eight points and six rebounds.
• Overshadowed by the Friday loss was a new WNBA record established by Indiana’s rookie tandem of Kelsey Mitchell and Victoria Vivians who now boast 123 3-pointers this season — the most by any rookie duo in league history. Mitchell’s 64 3-pointers now are fourth in league history by a rookie and Vivians’ 59 are sixth.
• With only one more 3-pointer from Vivians, the Fever will become the first WNBA team ever to have a pair of rookies both eclipse 60 3-point field goals.
• Candice Dupree is 11 points shy of becoming the sixth player in WNBA history with 6,000 career points. She is 19 from passing Lauren Jackson (6,007) as the eighth-leading scorer in league annals.
• With Indiana’s triumph over Dallas, the Fever have beaten the current No. 2 (Atlanta), No. 4 (Los Angeles), No. 6 (Minnesota) and No. 8 (Dallas) teams in the WNBA standings, with two of them on the road.
• All five Fever victories have come while holding opponents below 80 points. In 17 games since June 24, Indiana is 4-0 when opponents fail to reach 87 points, and 0-13 in all remaining games. In 17 games during that stretch, opponents topped 90 points eight times.
• Kelsey Mitchell had her sixth 20-point scoring game of the season, scoring exactly 20 with four 3-pointers against the Mercury. Also off the bench, Tiffany Mitchell matched a season-high 17 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds. Fellow reserve Stephanie Mavunga saw 15 minutes of action and matched her own season-best with six rebounds.
