Fourth-Grade Student Does Presentation on "Famous Hoosier" Tamika Catchings
Indeed, Tamika Catchings is a famous Hoosier.
Westfield fourth-grader Ashlyn Hauk hopes to be just like Catchings someday and, in fact, she’s already delivered a great impersonation.
Each year, fourth-grade students at Oak Trace Elementary School are assigned the task of researching a Famous Hoosier and presenting a biographical project about the person, as if the child was the Famous Hoosier. From a five-page list of names including athletes, entertainers, politicians, authors, astronauts, artists, business entrepreneurs and scientists, Hauk selected Catchings.
Upon gathering information about her favorite Fever star, Ashlyn was tasked with creating a poster about the person and writing a speech about the Famous Hoosier. As part of the speech presentation, the children are asked to actually deliver a first-person speech about their Hoosier, and dress like them, too.
Ashlyn’s parents purchased a Catchings jersey and a Fever cinch-sack for the presentation. She received a 100 percent score from her teacher, Mrs. Rose Damiani. “Ashlyn did an amazing job portraying Tamika in first person,” said the teacher.
Congratulations, Ashlyn! The Indiana Fever agrees that Tamika is a very special person and we’re glad that your Famous Hoosier has made such a positive impact on your education. Great work!
