Overview: In her fifth season in the WNBA, all while wearing an Indiana Fever jersey, Kelsey Mitchell solidified her place as one of the greatest players in franchise history. In 2022, Mitchell averaged career-highs with 18.4 points per game, 4.2 assists per game and shot 43.8 percent from the field, to go along with 1.9 rebounds and 32.6 minutes per contest in 31 games played. Before missing the last five games of the regular season with a partial plantar fascia tear in her left foot, Mitchell played in all 153 games of her WNBA career, which is now the longest consecutive games played streak in franchise history and was also the longest active streak in the WNBA. Her 569 points scored this season tied her career-best with her 2021 scoring total, which was achieved in 32 games played. Mitchell scored more from the free throw line this season than in any other prior season making 105 free throws. She also finished with the eighth most field goals made in a regular season in franchise history with 196. Her 17 games scoring at least 20 points this season tied Tamika Catchings for the second most scored by a Fever player. She will enter the 2023 season third in franchise history in points scored (2,428), third in field goals made (855) and second in 3-point field goals made (347).
Notable Performances:
May 10: In the first win of the season against the Minnesota Lynx, Mitchell scored 26 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Mitchell scored 13 of the franchise-best 36 second-quarter points for Indiana.
May 15: Mitchell continued her incredible start to the season with a then season-high 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 shooting night from beyond the arc against the Atlanta Dream.
May 20: Mitchell set a franchise record for most points scored in a quarter with 19 of her 23 points scored in the fourth quarter against the Connecticut Sun.
May 24: Indiana nearly played spoiler during the Chicago Sky championship ring ceremony as Mitchell finished with 25 points, scoring 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter alone.
June 19: The Fever defeated the defending champions behind Mitchell tying her career-high with nine assists.
July 7: Mitchell went 10-of-18 from the field to finish with 27 points and five assists against the Chicago Sky.
July 24: One of the greatest scoring efforts in Fever franchise history happened when Mitchell scored 34 points on 13-of-23 shooting, to go along with six assists and five rebounds against the Dallas Wings. It was the third 30-point game in Mitchell’s career and tied for the second most points scored in a regular season game in franchise history.
