Fever Sign Briann January to Multi-Year Contract Extension

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever have signed point guard Briann January to a multi-year contract extension, it has been announced by President and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not announced.

Currently in her seventh WNBA season, all with the Fever, January has helped Indiana to playoff appearances in each of six seasons including two trips to the WNBA Finals and a 2012 WNBA championship. Regarded as a lock-down defender, she has earned WNBA All-Defensive Team accolades in three straight seasons from 2012-14, and was selected as a WNBA All-Star in 2014.

January joins teammate Tamika Catchings as a member of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team Pool for 2014-16, with hopes of competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The product of Arizona State and the Fever’s first-round draft pick in 2009, January currently averages 8.0 points and 3.4 assists in 2015. Until a recent knee injury, she had started every game for Indiana this season, ranking 11th in the WNBA in assists while engineering the Fever toward an 11th consecutive playoff appearance.

She enjoys career averages of 8.8 points per game and 3.5 assists per game. She is second in Fever history with 673 assists and third in scoring with 1,723 points.
