National Tattoo Day celebrates the skin art and the love for tattoos that still prevails in the society and this year the Indiana Fever are sharing the stories behind their art!
1 of 8Mind Over Matter
"My port for chemotherapy was right here, so that’s why I have this cut. For me, this tattoo is a reminder that sometimes in life you go through things, but if you stay positive mentally and keep pushing you can overcome anything." - Jessica Breland
2 of 8Only God Can Judge Me
"This is probably one of the first big pieces I got when I was in college. At that age I wasn’t confident in myself about my sexuality, lifestyle and how I wanted to live my life. This tattoo became another form of motivation to just keep being who I am." - Jessica Breland
3 of 8Roses & Half Tiger, Half Woman
"The roses symbolize my family. With it just being my mom, my brother and myself growing up, these three roses represent us. I can look down and always feel like they are with me... The Half Tiger, Half Woman is one of my favorites for sure. It represents both sides of me. The tiger eye represent who I am on the court, which is aggressive. The other eye has more details like lashes and represents me as a woman and my feminine side. Together, they represent me as a whole." - Tiffany Mitchell
4 of 8Black Female Empowerment & Puzzle Piece
"I’m a God-fearing Black woman, who is also a queen, which is why she is wearing a crown, while praying. I feel like this tattoo doesn’t just represent me, it also represents my mom and is a sign of Black women empowerment in general... I got the puzzle piece with my four childhood best friends. All of us have a piece of the puzzle, and they all connect, so we’re always together." - Tiffany Mitchell
5 of 8California Love, 1;1 & Never Worry, Just Pray
"I’m from California, and I put the heart in the northern part where I’m from... The 1:1 is there because I’m created one of one. God makes us one of one. I wanted it to read like a biblical verse because that also represents my faith... This script is my newest one and my favorite. This is my mom’s handwriting, and it says, “never worry, just pray.” She sent that to me in a text one day, and I saved it so I can read it all the time." - Danielle Robinson
6 of 8Arabic Writing & Roman Numerals
"My mom’s side of the family is Muslim, and my dad’s side is Christian. So, I have Christian sayings, but I also have Arabic to represent both sides. On my right hand it says, “Always Love Yourself First” in Arabic because it’s important to love yourself or nobody else will. The Arabic on my left arm says, “Your Faith Is Greater Than Your Fear” and you actually read it backwards... The roman numerals represent my birthday." - Victoria Vivians
7 of 8Palm Trees & Dad
"I have many palm trees on me. It’s like a spirit thing for me. When I die, I actually want to become a palm tree... This one says “Dad” with a heart. I love my dad. He raised me, and I’m a daddy’s girl." - Victoria Vivians
