Game Recap: Team USA 88, Select Team 84

LOS ANGELES — In its first exhibition game of the USA Basketball Showcase presented by Verizon, the 2016 USA Basketball Women’s National Team earned an 88-84 win over the 2016 USA Select Team on Monday at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center.

Maya Moore hit four free throws in the final 40 seconds to help the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team survive a stiff test from a U.S. select team with an 88-84 victory Monday night.

The Fever had one participant representing each team in the contest. Forward Tamika Catchings is playing on her fourth National Team this summer, and rookie guard Tiffany Mitchell was chosen for the Select Team roster.

Mitchell played the third-most minutes for the select group, logging just over 22 minutes of action in which she scored seven points and added two rebounds and one assist and steal apiece. Mitchell got most of her points at the free throw line, converting all five attempts from the charity stripe.

Catchings played 7:37 in the contest, shooting 2-for-3 from the floor and converting a free throw for a line of five points, three rebounds, and one assist, steal and blocked shot apiece.

The Olympic team will play three exhibition games against France, Australia and Canada on the East Coast before heading to the Rio Olympics.
