Natalie Achonwa and Madam Walker Legacy Center Announce Entrepreneur Grant Winners

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Fever forward Natalie Achonwa, recipient of the 2020 Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award, in partnership with the Madam Walker Legacy Center, announced today four grant award winners to Hoosier women in business.

Achonwa received a $10,000 grant to donate to the charity of her choice and selected the MWLC to promote the legacy of education and entrepreneurship to female business owners.

The four female start-up entrepreneurs based in Indiana, were selected to receive a $2,500 grant, as well as in-depth business development training. Development training will be provided by the Mid States Minority Supplier Development Council, a nationally recognized minority business development organization.

The four grant winners are: Just Add A Bow by Shervon LLC, Alpha Health and Wellness LLC, Madam Business Beauty and Ladies Night In-dy.

Achonwa and the MWLC announced the winners on the official Madam Walker Legacy Center’s Facebook page.

The Dawn Staley Community Leadership award, named after the former WNBA player recognized for her leadership, is given each year by the WNBA to a player who has demonstrated outstanding community and team leadership. Fever vice president for basketball operations and general manager, Tamika Catchings, won the inaugural Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award in 2008, and subsequently again in 2016.
