Head Coach Marianne Stanley Among 14 Finalists for Basketball Hall of Fame

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced its list of 14 finalists for the Class of 2021 Tuesday afternoon.

The list includes nine first-time finalists, including Indiana Fever head coach Marianne Stanley.

Stanley has a women’s basketball coaching career that spans more than 40 years at the collegiate and professional level.

In the collegiate ranks for over 20 years, Stanley led Old Dominion to an NCAA national championship in 1985 and compiled an overall collegiate coaching record of 416-222 (.652).

She led her teams to three NCAA Final Four appearances (1983, 1985, 1996) and guided Old Dominion to consecutive AIAW national championships (1979,1980) and a WNIT championship (1978).

Before joining the Fever in 2020 as their head coach, she served as an assistant and head coach for several WNBA franchises, earning WNBA Coach of the Year in 2002 at the helm of the Washington Mystics.

The list of finalists also includes names like Yolanda Griffith, Lauren Jackson, Chris Bosh, Michael Cooper, and Paul Pierce. Click here to view the full list of finalists.

Fever General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Tamika Catchings was selected to the 2020 Hall of Fame class.

As previously announced, the Class of 2020 Enshrinement ceremony has been rescheduled and relocated due to COVID-19 and is scheduled for May 14-16, 2021 at Mohegan Sun.
