Fever Snap Losing Streak To Mystics with 91-84 Win

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Indiana Fever last defeated the Washington Mystics on September 11, 2016. Fast forward to the second meeting of the abbreviated 2020 regular season, and the Fever outlasted the Mystics, 91-84, on Sunday night to snap an 11-game losing streak to Washington.

One game after reaching 1,000 career points, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell continued her impressive scoring streak with a season-high 29 points on 8-of-13 shooting, as well as a 9-of-9 clip from the free throw line to push the Fever record to 3-4. It was Mitchell’s 17th 20-point performance in her career.

Mitchell poured in 10 of her 29 points in the second quarter, which also saw the Fever hold the defending WNBA champions to a mere 3-of-18 shooting in the quarter. Indiana went into the locker room with a 52-39 lead and would build an advantage as large as 16 on Sunday night.

Teaira McCowan came off the bench to record her second consecutive and 14th career double-double performance with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Cox was given the starting nod on Sunday night to record her first career starting role in just her third career game.

Tiffany Mitchell played a season-high 37:14 and ended with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Mitchell went 6-of-7 from the free throw line, snapping her consecutive made streak at 30, which dated back to the 2019 season.

Julie Allemand had another great shooting night, finishing 3-of-4 from long range, to go along with six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Seven of the eight made 3-point field goals on Sunday night for the Fever came from Allemand and Kelsey Mitchell.

Washington’s Emma Meesseman went into halftime with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, but was held to just two points in the second half.
