MINNEAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever dropped the first regular season meeting against the Minnesota Lynx, 89-72, in Minneapolis on Friday night.
After trailing by five at halftime, Minnesota used a 30-point third quarter to secure the eventual win in the first of three games this week featuring the two teams.
Tiffany Mitchell led the Fever with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Mitchell has now scored in double figures in 18 of the last 19 games, including the last nine consecutive games.
Jantel Lavender came off the bench to finish with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and nine rebounds. Her nine rebounds were the third most secured this season.
With 11 points on Friday, Kelsey Mitchell has now extended her scoring streak with at least 10 points to 19 straight games.
Forward Jessica Breland played only four minutes after exiting with a right thumb injury early in the first quarter.
For Minnesota, Aerial Powers finished with her third straight 20-point scoring output. Kayla McBride added 15 points, while Sylvia Fowles ended with 13 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals.
