INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever fell to the Atlanta Dream, 85-79, on Sunday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The two teams will square off on Tuesday again in Indianapolis, with tip set for 7 p.m. ET.
Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell continued her incredible start to the season with a season-high 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting and a perfect 4-of-4 shooting night from beyond the arc. Sunday was also Mitchell’s third consecutive game with at least 20 points and the 37th game reaching at least 20 points in a game in her career.
Rookie forward NaLyssa Smith added a new career-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. The No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft left the game with a right ankle injury in the fourth quarter and did not return.
Alaina Coates made her Fever debut Sunday night off the bench and scored her first bucket off a transition pass from Destanni Henderson.
Danielle Robinson added eight points and four assists, while Emily Engstler came off the bench to lead the Fever reserves with all six of her points scored in the fourth quarter.
Atlanta improved to 3-1 this season after a 33-point performance from the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, Rhyne Howard. Nia Coffey and Cheyenne Parker each tallied 14 and 11 points, while second-year guard Aari McDonald and Monique Billings came off the bench to finish with 11 and 10 points each.
