In their first matchup of the regular season, the Indiana Fever take on the Seattle Storm at Climate Pledge Arena on Friday night. The game will feature three top-10 scorers in the WNBA with Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell against Seattle’s Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd.
The Fever meet Seattle searching to end a three-game skid on the road. In its last outing, Indiana was defeated 99-78 against the Phoenix Mercury. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell logged her 13th game scoring at least 20 points this season, finishing with 21 points and five assists. Mitchell moved past her previous personal best of 13 20-point games in a season and is three away from tying Tamika Catchings for the second-most in franchise history.
In that same game, Mitchell reached another milestone by passing current Storm guard Briann January for third on the franchise’s all-time scoring list. January played her first nine seasons in Indiana and along with teammate Sue Bird, noted 2022 will be their last season.
Coming into Friday, the Storm’s most recent outing was an 88-78 win at home against the Las Vegas Aces. Loyd scored a game-high 24 points, coupled by a season-high 15 points from forward Stephanie Talbot off the bench. Newly acquired center Tina Charles made her debut with the team, coming off the bench and contributing four points and five rebounds.
The Storm forced the Aces to commit a season-high 20 turnovers and scored 23 points off turnovers. Seattle was also hot from beyond the arc, making a season-high 14 of 29 attempts from deep.
