Fever Stars Kelsey Mitchell and Tiffany Mitchell Invited to USA Basketball Women’s National Team Training Camp Prior to FIBA World Cup

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guards Kelsey Mitchell and Tiffany Mitchell, members of the 2018-20 USA Basketball Women’s National Team pool, have been selected to participate in the USA Women’s National Team World Cup training camp which begins Monday, Sept. 3 at the University of South Carolina. Both participated in USA Basketball’s National Team training camp in April, prior to the start of the WNBA season.

The USA will be in the hunt to earn a 10th World Cup gold medal at the 2018 FIBA World Cup, Sept. 22-30 in Tenerife, Spain. The USA will train initially in Columbia, S.C., on the South Carolina campus where U.S. National Team coach Dawn Staley directs the Gamecocks’ college program.

Tiffany Mitchell joins Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings) and A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) among three Gamecock alumnae that will open training camp in their former college arena and with Staley, their former college coach.

The USA team will conduct an intrasquad exhibition contest at Colonial Life Arena on Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m., prior to a pair of domestic tour exhibition games in Bridgeport, Conn., and Washington, D.C. All three domestic contests will be televised on NBATV.

When the USA tips off against Canada on Sept. 8 in Bridgeport, four Fever stars will take the court with Indiana centers Natalie Achonwa and Kayla Alexander both representing their native country. The U.S. closes its domestic tour against Japan on Sept. 10 at George Washington University in the nation’s capital.

Prior to arriving in Tenerife, Canary Islands, for the Sept. 22-30 FIBA World Cup, the USA will play in a four-team, international tournament in Antibes, France, Sept. 15-17. The USA’s World Cup schedule includes a Group C opening round against Belgium, Japan, Puerto Rico and Spain.

The final 12-member 2018 USA World Cup Team will be selected from the 2018-20 USA National Team pool which is comprised of top American players in the WNBA, plus select college stars. Members of the USA National Team pool who are participating in the 2018 WNBA Finals will not be available for the beginning of the camp but may be added at a later date.
