After using the same locker room and practice court since 1999, a renewed excitement fills the halls of Bankers Life Fieldhouse as the Indiana Fever recently unveiled their brand-new locker room facility.
Fully renovated, the new locker room includes new coaches’ offices, conference rooms and an upgraded training room. In addition to the locker room, the Fever also revealed their new Salesforce Court, which the team will practice on during the season and use for offseason training as well.
“We’re really excited about the improvements,” Coach Stanley said. “The amenities that we can offer our team, and any potential players that we target, is a fantastic facility that is really geared toward them developing in every way and every facet.”
Earlier in the month, Fever President Dr. Allison Barber, General Manager Tamika Catchings, and Head Coach Marianne Stanley held a special virtual ribbon cutting ceremony and opened the doors to the team for their first look.
For majority of the players who are currently playing overseas, their first look came from a live video call on Zoom. Third-year center Teaira McCowan and last season’s rookies Lauren Cox and Kathleen Doyle, who are currently in Indianapolis, were able to tour the facility in person.
For Cox, she didn’t get a chance to see the old locker room. However, when speaking with media on Friday, she left no doubt that she was excited about the new look.
“I think it’s really nice,” Cox replied. “I didn’t see what it was like before but just going in there and getting the tour, it was really nice. The Salesforce Court is amazing, the locker room is apparently a lot more spacious, so we won’t be on top of each other and then having the weight room right there is going to be nice because we can literally walk right out of the locker room into the weight room. So, I’m really excited, the Pacers & Sports Entertainment team and the Indiana Fever did a great job, and I’m really thankful.”
As for Coach Stanley, while she doesn’t have a favorite area in the new facility, she couldn’t say enough good things about all the renovations and more importantly how this will allow current and future players to train all year round, while also being a pillar in the community.
“There’s so much to like,” Coach Stanley replied with a smile. “I love the locker rooms, I like the coaches’ area, I love the conference room. The training room is a trainer’s dream. You know it’s just first-class top to bottom, the weight room is extensive and state of the art. So, I’m really excited because this is all going to help our players, not only enjoy their experience but benefit from being here and have every opportunity to reach all their goals because they have what they need all year round to be their best.”
