Not unique to the Indiana Fever or the WNBA is for a player to eclipse 1,000 points during a career. But considering the growing talent in the women’s pro game, almost nobody goes undrafted and reaches that level of play.
Erica Wheeler has done just that, becoming just the league’s second undrafted free agent to surpass 1,000 career points while debuting in the WNBA in 2007 or later.
Read that again — yes, that means just two players to accomplish the feat over the past decade. The other is Tierra Ruffin-Pratt of the Washington Mystics.
In four WNBA seasons, Wheeler has become only the sixth undrafted free agent in league history to reach both 1,000 career points and 400 career assists: Becky Hammon, Iziane Castro Marques, Anna DeForge, DeMya Walker, Tully Bevilaqua and Wheeler.
