With the new Jr. NBA site and app launching this season, one of the WNBA’s biggest stars – Tamika Catchings – took some time to write a letter for everyone new to the Jr. NBA:
It’s a privilege to welcome you to the Jr. NBA! I’m excited to be a part of this fantastic youth basketball program, and I’m honored to serve on the Jr. NBA Leadership Council. Basketball has always been an important part of my life, and I’m thrilled that I can help strengthen the experience at the grassroots level through my role on the Council.
I was fortunate to have a great upbringing in the game of basketball. My father was my first coach and also the one that made sure that my brother, sister and I learned the fundamentals of the game. The Jr. NBA is focused on teaching those same fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game, including teamwork and respect. The game has taught me so much throughout my life and it has helped to shape me into the person I am today.
