2019 Player Review: Shenise Johnson

Overview: Johnson returned from a left ACL surgery that cost her the entire 2018 season, then had her 2019 campaign cut short again by a knee sprain and arthroscopic surgery. She appeared in 17 games and missed 15 due to injury, averaging 4.9 points and 2.1 rebounds when she was on the court. Relegated to reserve action while battling injuries, her most significant action was a 12-point performance in an August win over Minnesota.

 

Notable Performances:

May 24: Johnson returned to the court for the first time since July 2017, finishing with two points and a season-high five rebounds in a one-point victory over the Liberty.

June 23: Johnson saw 13 minutes of action on the road at Seattle while scoring her first points in nearly two seasons. She made 3 of 6 attempts from the floor to finish with six points and two rebounds against the Storm.

July 12: Johnson reached double-figure scoring for the first time with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor, a 3-pointer and four free throws in a home loss to Los Angeles.

July 19: She recorded scoring and rebounding highs with 13 points and five boards during another home defeat to eventual WNBA champion Washington. She shot 5 of 8 from the floor during 16 minutes of action.

 

August 3: Reaching double-digit scoring for the third time during a big Fever home win over the Lynx, Johnson totaled 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers.
