Katie Douglas helps in fight against pancreatic cancer

By Adara Crooks | May 16, 2013

Katie Douglas battled on the court while her father battled for his life. While her father lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, Douglas continues to battle for a cure and raise awareness.

Basketball was definitely my sanctuary where I could go for a few hours and forget that my dad was terminally ill, said Douglas. Katies family motivated her to continue her basketball career and focus on the opportunities presented to her through basketball.

Focusing on college, basketball and setting goals helped Katie Douglas grieve and move on. One of the most important lessons she learned from her fathers battle with pancreatic cancer was, Try to make the most of every moment you can with your loved ones. Be there for them to show them you truly love them and care for them.

Due to her fathers experience with pancreatic cancer, Katie has become a strong supporter and Champion of Hope for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN). PANCAN is an organization focused on raising awareness and finding a cure for pancreatic cancer.

On June 22 at 8 a.m., Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will host the PurpleStride Indianapolis 5K run or 1-Mile walk at the IUPUI Wood Fountain Plaza. Fans can join Katie in the fight against pancreatic cancer by signing up or donating to her team. CLICK HERE to join or donate to Katie's team
